Summer is the height of the growing season and if you follow a good lawn care routine your summer lawn should be looking fantastic at this time of the year.
Water is the key this season, during longer dryer periods a weekly soaking can be a good idea. Water restrictions can be an issue though, so make sure you’re aware of any restrictions in your area before establishing your routine.
Providing the right nutrients, of course, will help your lawn look even better. A good fertilising routine is recommended in summer to encourage strong root systems. Take advtantage of any summer rain to help water in your fertiliser.
During summer try to remove no more than a third of the leaf blade, this encourages dense, healthy growth.
Always a pain in the neck, weeds can get out of control in the summer if you don’t keep on top of them. If you have a healthy Sir Walter lawn this can help you with weeds, as it tends to grow them out. But a combination of mowing too low and lack of nutrients can be an invitation to weeds so make sure you know the correct mowing height for your lawn variety.
